Obituary

Walter Houston Wharton Jr., 78, peacefully went to be with his Heavenly Father on November 11, 2017, after a brief illness.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter H. Wharton Sr. and Louise Sikes Wharton.

He is survived by two sisters, Louise Marlin of Hanover, Indiana, and Sarah Frances (Recee) Murphy and her husband Bill of Madisonville, Kentucky, and a brother, Frank W. Wharton and his wife Lorraine of Louisville, Kentucky.  He is also survived by one nephew, Charles (Chip) Marlin, and three nieces, Melissa Marlin Jackson, Nancy Murphy King, and Emily Murphy Dawson, and many cousins.

After graduating from high school, Walter spent 9 years in the Navy.  Upon leaving the Navy, he worked as a journeyman pipefitter for many years, before retiring to his home in Spring City, Tennessee.

In high school, Walter was active in sports and football and later became Light Heavyweight Golden Gloves Boxing Champion of Middle Tennessee.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and would take advantage of any chance he could go.

We would like to acknowledge Vicky Blaylock and her daughter, Jacinata of Dayton, Tennessee for their loving care they gave to Walter over the past few years.

The funeral will be held Saturday, November 18 at 2:00 o'clock at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Reverend Steve Odom will officiate. Visitation will be from 12 noon until time of services at 2PM.
