January 2, 1929 – August 24, 2016
Robert Elton Burgess, age 87, of Smyrna passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016. He was a native of Nashville, TN and the husband of the late Ruth Burgess and the son of the late Herbert and Mary Woodside Burgess.
The funeral service for Mr. Burgess will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna with Dr. Lenny Farmer and Dr. Benny Woods officiating. Burial to follow at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be Gary Leffew, Van Baggett, Mike DuMont, Billy Noe, Jim Tomlin and Chip Sullivan. The Sam Davis Masonic Lodge will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Robert Burgess is also survived by one daughter, Becky Henderson and her husband Robin of Smyrna; one son, Steve Burgess and his wife Regina of Gallatin; a sister, Anne Sullivan and her husband Claude of Joelton; two grandsons, Jeremy Stanfield and his wife Brittany of Murfreesboro and Brian Burgess of Gallatin; and one great grandson, Colt Stanfield.
Robert Burgess graduated from North High School in Nashville. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army and was a combat veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Burgess was a printing salesman and also an ordained minister. He was a member of the Sam Davis Masonic Lodge and a member of LifePoint Church in Smyrna, TN.
Visitation for Mr. Burgess will be Monday, August 29, 2016 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again an hour before the service Tuesday all at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Mr. Burgess.
