Raymond Lee Clay, age 72 of Smyrna, TN died Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in Monteagle, TN. Raymond was a native of Naoma, West Virginia and son of the late Earl and Violet (Totten) Clay of Naoma. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 Years, Judy (Osborne) Clay originally of Birchton, W.VA.
He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Kimberly (Woodrick) Clay of La Vergne, TN and daughter and son-in-law Lana and Charles Held of Mount Holly, N.C. He leaves behind 3 grandchildren, Tyler and Natalie Clay and Madeleine Held. He is also survived by siblings Roger Clay and his wife Wanda of Dry Creek, W. VA. And Carl Clay of Creston. OH.
He was preceded in death by siblings Juanita Clay Hamilton, James Clay, Shirley Clay Perucki and Earl "Junior" Clay.
Raymond served in the US Navy from 1961-1965, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, as well as 2 more years in the reserves. He worked in Chicago, Illinois, then settled in Ohio after taking a job with Ford Motor Company in Brookpark where he worked for 29 years. Raymond and Judy lived in the Medina, Ohio area for more than 20 years where they attended Grace Baptist Church in Brunswick, Ohio. Raymond retired from Ford in 1995 and relocated to Tennessee in 1999. Raymond enjoyed reading, woodworking, classic cars and spending time with his grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna with a visitation starting at 10:00 AM and going until 10:45 AM. A private family burial will take place at Middle TN State Veterans Cemetery.
