Smotherman
May 25, 1940 – December 19, 2016
Curtis Ray Smotherman "Smut", age 76 of Almaville, TN passed away on Monday evening December 19th, 2016 surrounded by his family in the home that he built in 1973 on his family farm. He is the husband of Carolyn Ann Smotherman and the son of late Aubrey and Annie Lytle Smotherman.
Curtis was born in Murfreesboro, Tn and worked at Chromalox for 33 years, also in Murfreesboro, as a supervisor and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a coon hunter since the mid 60's and traveled the country hunting competitively with his Walker hounds. In 1967 he was the first hunter to win the World Coon Hunting Championship with a female hound, Sundown Sally. Later in life, his love of horses grew and eventually turned the family farm into a base of horse training operation once he retired from his daily job.
Visitation for Curtis will be at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, Tn on Thursday December 22nd, 2016 from 3pm – 7pm. There will be a graveside service at 11am Friday Decemeber 23rd, 2016 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Jerry Fears to officiate. His sons Tony, Brandon, and family friends to serve as pallbearers.
Curtis is also survived by his oldest son Tony Smotherman and wife Misty along with their two sons Andrew and Alex of Almaville; youngest son Brandon Smotherman and fiancé Jennifer Vitali of Atlanta, Georgia; cousins Doris Ann Outland, Ethelene Vaughn (Dobie), and Peggy Alcorn (Robert), brother and sister in- laws, Ruth Viggins, Patsy Douglas, Larry Brown, and Wayne Brown (Marilyn). A special thanks to Donna Banks for taking such amazing care of Curtis during his fight with dementia.
In lieu of flowers, the Smotherman's ask that donations be made to Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro, Tn.
