Mrs. Sylvia Yvonne Webb Stewart, passed away on June 30, 2026. She is survived by her husband, Col. J.T. Stewart, Jr (USAF, ret.), daughters Stephanie (Seth Howard), Laura (Brad Holder), and grandsons Brennan and Jesse Holder.
Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother left this world, leaving it a better place than she found it.
Born in Rocky Mount, Virginia, her parents were Charles Lewis Webb and Lula Prillaman Webb, both deceased. Her much-loved sister Shelby Webb Holland, nieces Jennifer Rogers and Amy Rogers (Gary Smith) and other extended family members also celebrate her memory.
Yvonne was many things – English and Spanish teacher in the US and in DoD schools abroad, antique dealer, military spouse, committed 20-year Meals on Wheels volunteer, global traveler, and lover of the outdoors.
She will be remembered for her adventurous nature, daring to ski across the world from the Matterhorn to Vail, CO; exploring multiple countries across Europe, the Middle East, and Central America, as well as the United States; going back to school after Joe retired to get her Master’s in English literature; exploring national monuments and parks; reading voraciously and sharing her love of books with friends and family; singing, including training with Met and La Scala diva Alexandra Hunt; riding across Tennessee on the back of Joe’s motorcycles; growing beautiful flower gardens at her Brentwood home; and being the kind of hostess between the military world and corporate America that made her guests feel comfortable, cared for, and engaged.
A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, she loved traditional sacred music and sang in choirs for decades.
She adored singing musical theatre in performance and appeared in several musicals, including The King and I (which also featured daughter Laura). She listened to Motown, big band, and classical music. Carol King’s Tapestry album got played often in the living room when her girls were small.
Her love of travel and exploration along with a lifetime interest in archaeology and history led to adventures across the world, from Egypt to Cozumel to Athens to being one of the very first military dependents to cross Checkpoint Charlie into East Berlin in the 1960s. She and Joe could tell hours of stories about their wild and brilliant adventures across the world. Eventually, they brought their two young daughters into the amazing expeditions without missing a beat.
Yvonne was a cutthroat mahjong player, playing weekly with a group in Brentwood who became dear friends. She spent plenty of time relaxing at the riverside cottage she and Joe maintained in Rock Island, TN, joined by family and their Gordon setter Bowmore (Bo), cats Florrie and Pepper. She and Bo took many morning rambles along the trails, regardless of weather.
She lived life to the fullest. Most recently, being a grandmother took up plenty of her time, and she loved Brennan and Jesse with all her heart.
Yvonne will be missed by everyone who knew her – her kindness, generosity, hopeful spirit, delightful sense of humor, and fun-loving nature leaving a legacy others can and should aspire to have.
A Celebration of Life will take place at later date, to be determined.
