Obituary

William Donald Warpoole went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 8th after a short illness. He was born in Davidson County but spent most of his life in Rutherford County. He was of the Baptist faith. He worked many years as an electrician wiring homes and some commercial buildings. He was asked to wire the Paradise Walking Horse Stables in Shelbyville and did so. In 1964 he moved the family to Downey, CA where he began work with the Borden Company in a town nearby. He wanted his girls to grow up in Tennessee so he moved his family back to Murfreesboro in 1966 where he felt this would be a more Christian place to raise his family. He could fix anything and did -- cars, lawn mowers, plumbing, electrical, or a little girl?s broken heart. His last employment was with Samsonite where he worked as a tow motor mechanic for 24 years. He retired when the plant closed. He was preceded in death by his parents John Counce Warpoole and Ada Mai Smiley Warpoole; and three brothers: Douglas Warpoole, Terry Warpoole and Counce Bratton Warpoole. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce (Shelton) Warpoole; four precious daughters: Tammye Forgey (David) of Virginia Beach, Teresa Hobson (Philip) of Murfreesboro, Donna Gunter (Lindsay) of Auburntown, and Wendy Woods (Chris) of Cannon Co. He was greatly blessed by ten grandchildren: Aimee D. Leverette (Ft. Collins, CO), Tammye A. Allen (Baton Rouge, LA), David Christopher Allen (Charlottesville, VA), Elizabeth D. Forgey and Joshua Forgey (VA. Beach), Matthew Hobson and Rachel Hobson of Murfreesboro, Savannah and Caroline Gunter of Auburntown, and Cheyenne Sampson of Cannon Co. He is also survived by his sister Peggie Ross (Jerry) of Smyrna and several nieces and nephews. He and Joyce enjoyed several trips with their best friends, Dr. J. Gordon Henry (J. Gordon Henry Ministries) and wife Sue as Dr. Henry did prayer seminars in Israel, Greece, England, Germany, France and Alaska. Donald was a quiet but unique person. He believed in listening to others instead of doing all the talking. He enjoyed living 39 years in a neighborhood where he knew most of his neighbors and they knew him. He loved to work outside in his vegetable garden or doing yard work. He especially loved sunsets, family gatherings with big meals, watching wildlife in the yard, and his neighbors. He and Joyce enjoyed sunny days fishing on Tim?s Ford Lake and being the captain of his pontoon boat. Many days were spent with family and friends in the cabin there. He always tried to catch a bigger catfish than Joyce did. He accomplished that feat by catching a 25 lb. catfish while sitting asleep in a chair on his dock. He made sure there was a picture of him and the fish. When the daughters were very young, he spent all his lake time untangling fishing lines, putting on worms, and getting hooks out of the mouths of the fish they had caught, or out of them. He was a man of few words but loved by many. We will miss him greatly, but know he is now free of his arthritic pain and the pains of getting older, and is home with the Lord. God is good! We have nothing but praise and thankfulness for the Critical Care Unit of Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital for their wonderful care of Donald during his 9-day stay there. Also for his team of doctors who tried so hard to bring him back home to us but could not do so; we so appreciate you. Visitation will be 4:00pm until 8:00pm Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be 2:00pm Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Dr. J. Gordon Henry officiating. Burial will follow at Cherry Cemetery in Cannon County with family and friends serving as pallbeaers. On line guestbook available at www.woodfinchapel.com (615)893-5151.
