Obituary

William Carl Kilburn, age 57, of Murfreesboro, TN. lost his battle with COPD and emphysema on July 9, 2011. Mr. Kilburn and his wife were unable to have children and were unsuccessful in an attempt at adoption. He was born in Pulaski, TN and spent the majority of his life in Giles County. He entered the U.S. Army in 1972 and completed Military Police Training. Mr. Kilburn spent two tours of duty in Korea, where he met his future wife who was also in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in 1977. As part of his continuing education, he used his GI benefits to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from Athens State College in Athens, Alabama in 1983. Mr. Kilburn was preceded in death by his grandmother Halsie Adams, parents Florence Adams and Albert Kilburn, sister Joan Adams, brother-in-law Ronnie Attkisson, and nephew Robert Adams Jr. all of Pulaski, TN. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lucy R. Kilburn of Murfreesboro, sisters Jane (Wayne) McClure and Linda Attkisson, brother-in-law Robert Adams, 3 nephews and 2 nieces all of Pulaski, a brother Gene Kilburn of Columbia, an Aunt and cousins in Maine, a cousin in Georgia, and numerous cousins and other relations in Tennessee. Mr. Kilburn was employed by Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL for five years before embarking on a career as a truck driver. He had periods of being an owner operator and a company driver. Mr. Kilburn and his wife moved to Murfreesboro in 1990 and have lived here for the past 20 years. His last place of employment was with SAIA Motor Freight, in Lavergne. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 4:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brother Dale Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Giles Memorial Gardens at a later date. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. 615-893-5151
