WILLIAM ROGER (BILLY) HUGHES, age 62, of Murfreesboro, Tn. died August 10, 2008. He was a life long resident of Rutherford County and a Vietnam Veteran. He is survived by a son, Brian (Brooke) Hughes of Christiana; daughter, Melissa Hughes Simpson, Murfreesboro; devoted former wife and mother of his children, Cheryl Hughes; sister, Nancy (Joe) Crowell; mother Clara Zumbro Hughes, Murfreesboro; five grandchildren, Paxton Hughes, Molly Rose Hughes, Felicity Simpson, Lee Simpson and Jasmine Lynn; niece, Gwen Cagle and a nephew, Jeremy Nichols. Funeral services 2 pm Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with John Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial. Visitation with the family will be 4-8 pm Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his father, the late William Alex Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a graduate of Central High School and had worked for the Tennessee Department of Transportation for over 40 years. Pallbearers will be friends and relatives. Honorary Pallbearers will be James H. Todd and the Tennessee Department of Transportation State Employees. Billy Hughes loved life and people. His greatest joy cam from the love of his family and friends. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
