Obituary

William Morris Harrison, age 88, of Smyrna, died Sunday, December 2, 2012 at his home. He was a native of Ft. Payne, AL and the son of the late Henry Jefferson and Laura Morris Harrison. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Harrison of Smyrna, Lynn Richardson and her husband Brent of Bell Buckle, Laurie Harrison of Toronto, and Julie Young and her husband David of Murfreesboro, sister, Bonnie Maxwell of Ft. Payne, AL, grandchildren, Matthew Haddock and his wife Carrie, Will Harrison, Ben Harrison, Rachel Young, Jonathan Young, Harrison Makaruk, and Caroline Makaruk, great grandchild, Logan Haddock. Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda Faye Carroll Harrison, who died in 2006, brother, Brown Harrison, and sisters, Arvel Jones and Nell Bean. He was a member of Smyrna Church of Christ and served in the Navy during WWII. He did undergraduate and graduate studies at Auburn University, Purdue University, and the University of Tennessee. Mr. Harrison held a B.S. and M.S. degree. He was a teacher and principal in Ider, Alabama. He served as Assistant Commissioner for Vocational-Technical Education for the State of Tennessee and served as Executive Director of the State Advisory Council on Vocational Education. Mr. Harrison served on the Rutherford County Board of Education. The family would like to thank Rhonda Davis for her care and devotion to our father. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Bro. David Young will officiate. Burial will be in Mapleview Cemetery. Matthew Haddock, Will Harrison, Ben Harrison, Jonathan Young, Harrison Makaruk, and Brent Richardson will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be John Leeman, Tom Delbridge, Tony Wilson, and Russell Smith.
