William Christopher (Bill) Smith, Sr., age 90 of Murfreesboro passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Adams Place after a short illness. Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of the Blackman Community. He was the son of the late Ernest M. and Eunice Christopher Smith. He was a 6th generation farmer in the Blackman Community, a member of the Blackman Methodist Church and the Rutherford County Sportsmans Club. He was a 1940 graduate of Central High School and a member of Rutherford County Farm Bureau. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday at Woodfin Funeral Chapel, Murfreesboro. Rev. Gayle T. Watson and Rev. Bryan Brooks will officiate. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Randall Robinson, Roger Smith, Jim Mullins, Jeff Dismukes, Steve McNabb, Bruce Hooper and Bart Yeargan will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be friends of Hooper Supply Coffee Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Thelma Miller Smith; son, W.C. (Hooty) Smith, Jr.; sister, Ernestine Smith Williams and grandchild, Christopher Barton Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Jan Smith of Murfreesboro; son, Bart (Clarissa) Smith of Murfreesboro; step-daughter, Jill (Mike) Hardison of Arkansas; grandchildren, Walt (Annette) Smith, Jimmy (Valerie) Smith, David (Cindy) Smith, Patrick (Vicky) Smith and Kaycie Smith Royston (Zach) all of Murfreesboro; great-grandchildren, Waylon Smith, Nolan Smith, Tate Smith, Edie Smith, Cooper Smith, Cole Smith and Bentley Royston; nephews, Bubba (Cindy) Williams of Manchester and Bob Williams of Murfreesboro; great-niece, Jennifer (Chris) Williams Henson of Murfreesboro and special family member; Greg Grant.
