William C. "Bill" Garner, age 87, died Thursday January 29, 2015 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home. Mr. Garner was a native of Roxboro, NC, and was the son of the late Jessie J. and Sarah Alice Shields Garner. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Elbert, John, Larry, and Bernard Wayne, and sister, Reva. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brother Tony Holt will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers, Elders and Deacons of Kingwood Heights Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Garner is survived by his wife, Sarah Haynes Garner; daughters, Alice (Mike) Lathrop and Dolores Reed both of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Nellie Petty; brothers, Leon Garner, Lawrence (Vivian) Garner all of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Christopher (Rachel) Reed, Rachel Lathrop, Stacey (Chris) Pugh, Chelsea Reed, and Thomas (Melissa) Lathrop and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Garner was a member of Kingwood Heights Church of Christ, and was retired from the US Air Force and United Cities Gas. Memorials may be made to the Tennessee State Veterans Home, or to the Kingwood Heights Church of Christ Building Fund in memory of Mr. Garner.
