Obituary

William "Bill" Lyman Ashton, age 70, of Murfreesboro, TN died Tuesday, September 03, 2013. A native of Hammond, IN he was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman William and Ruth Nadine Soderberg Ashton. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:00PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Pastor Dave Bauder and Jim Hayes will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Ashton is survived by his loving wife, Anna Bartosikova Ashton; son, Lyman "Bill" William Ashton of Clarksville, TN; son, Tyler Michael Ashton of Denver, CO; daughter, Adriana Baker of Murfreesboro; son, Marek Seckar of NJ; and daughter, Susan Console of Delaware; sisters, Sally Hochstetler of Murfreesboro and Peggy Ashford of Woodbury; and grandchildren, Therese, Kayla, McKenna, Jacob, Madelynn and Ferrin. Mr. Ashton was a 1961 graduate of Hammond Tech H.S. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War where he flew the C-7 Caribou and also jumped with the Golden Knights Airborne team during the war. He received numerous awards for his service, most notably the Distinguish Flying Cross and the Purple Heart. Mr. Ashton later retired as a pilot from Continental Airlines after 35 years of service. He was a member of Rolling Thunder Tennessee Chapter 1. Mr. Ashton loved spending time with his grandchildren and he enjoyed riding his Harley, boating, flying, building projects and traveling. He flew combat soldiers into and out of both the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
