Walter P. Nipper, Jr.

Walter Peyton Nipper, Jr., age 78 of Murfreesboro, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 7, 2026. A native of Rutherford County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Peyton Nipper, Sr. and Ethel Virginia Sheets Nipper; sister, Virginia Ann Lester Knoll; brother-in-law, Clayton Eugene Fann; and an infant Fann.

He is survived by his sister, Brenda Nipper Fann; niece and nephew, Darren and Tonya Fann; Jana and Kenny Rooker, and Walter "Wally" Fann; great nieces and nephews, Shelby and Austin Prince, Cody Rooker, Jay Fann, and Casen Rooker; step great niece, Paige Arnold; and great great niece, Ella Prince.

Walter was a member of Lascassas Baptist Church. He was a 1966 graduate of Smyrna High School. He then went on to earn a bachelor’s in science and master’s in education at Middle Tennessee State University. He was a teacher for several years and later worked for Cumberland Swan. Walter was an avid sports fan with an impressive knowledge of sports. He especially enjoyed keeping the scorebook for his nieces’ and nephews’ games. Above all, he was a proud and loving brother, uncle, and friend.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 10:00-12:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM with Bill Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
