Walter Loyd, Jr. age 89 passed away Saturday January 31, 2015 at his home. Mr. Loyd was a lifelong resident of Rutherford County and the son of the late Walter and Adel Lovvorn Loyd, Sr. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Spencer Loyd and Archie Loyd. Mr. Loyd is survived by his wife of 71 years, Nellie Ghee Loyd, daughter, Diane Smotherman and her husband Donnie and son, Clifford G. "Bubba" Loyd, all of Murfreesboro, sisters, Jane Sullivan of Christiana and Amy Loyd of Murfreesboro, brothers, Ralph, Finis and Ray Loyd, all of Murfreesboro, grandchildren, Sheri (Paul) Arnette of Christiana, Shonda Vaughn of Murfreesboro, Christopher Loyd of Murfreesboro, great grandchildren, Emma and Mary Jane Arnette, Kylie Vaughn and K. C. Loyd. Funeral service will be 11:00am Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Bro. David West and Bro. Darryl Lewis will officiate. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Loyd was a member of Mars Hill Church of Christ. He was a Maintenance Supervisor for Rutherford County Schools under Beeler Smotherman for 10 years and Maintenance Supervisor for Murfreesboro City working with Baxter Hobgood, Dana Swick and John Hodge Jones. He retired following 31 years of service. Mr. Loyd was a member of Mars Hill Masonic Lodge #129 of Christiana and was a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Scottish rite. Pallbearers will be Donnie Smotherman, Paul Arnette, Glenn Chrisman, Johnny Brown, James Osborne, Sam Melton, Chuck Loyd and Randy Ghee.
