Walter Big Daddy Layhew, age 65, of Smryna died July 24, 2011. He was son of the late Hershell and Addie Pitts Layhew. Mr. Layhew is survived by the love of his life Mattie Lou Patterson and her children Wanda (John) Bond, Mike (Mary) Patterson, JoAnne McCurley and Lisa (Steve) Duke; two brothers Elmer Layhew and Melvin (Bea) Layhew; and two sisters Gloria Burks and Edith (Gary) Windrow all of Rockvale. He is preceded in death by his brother J.W. Layhew and step-daughter Teresa Croft. Besides spending time with his family, Mr. Layhew often enjoyed sports, hunting and fishing. A funeral service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Pastor Gaylon Dawson will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery.
