Truman Lee Jones, Jr.

Truman Lee Jones Jr., a lifelong resident of Rutherford County, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born on November 6, 1941, Truman dedicated his life to serving the community he loved. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he carried the values of duty, honor, and service with him throughout his life. He was a faithful member of Crescent Church of Christ.

Truman is perhaps best remembered for his distinguished 27-year career as Rutherford County Sheriff. His steadfast leadership, commitment to public safety, and genuine concern for the citizens of Rutherford County earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, friends, and the community he faithfully served.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Truman became a familiar and beloved voice throughout Middle Tennessee as the host of The Truman Show on WGNS Radio. Through his program, he informed, entertained, and connected with countless listeners, sharing his love for Rutherford County and its people with warmth, wit, and authenticity.

Truman was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jackie Jones, whom he cherished deeply. Though Jackie passed away approximately ten years ago, her memory remained an important and treasured part of Truman’s life. Their love and the life they shared remained a lasting part of his heart.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Truman L. Jones Sr. and Ruby Caffy Jones, and his brother, Russell Wayne Jones.

Truman is survived by his two sons, Jason (Gidget) Jones and Barry (Kim) Jones; his brother, Mike (Robbie) Jones; his cherished grandchildren, Tyler Jones, Landon Jones, Abby Jones, and Truman Russell Jones and his wife, Lauren; and his beloved great-granddaughter, Janie Beth Jones.

Above all, Truman treasured his family. They were the source of his greatest pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with those he loved.

Truman’s legacy is one of service, integrity, faith, and unwavering devotion to his community. Whether wearing the sheriff’s badge, speaking into a microphone, worshiping with his church family, or simply spending time with those he loved most, he made a lasting impact on the lives of many.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former colleagues, church family, and the countless people whose lives he touched throughout his remarkable life.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, with Brother Darryl Lewis officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Tyler Jones, Landon Jones, Truman Russell Jones; his nephew, Bo Jones; Kenneth Barrett, Britt Reed, Todd Sparks, and Lee Young. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Puckett, Stan McNabb, and Steve Goodwin. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the BrightSpring Hospice Foundation or the Pat Summitt Foundation. Truman spent his life caring for and serving others, and it would be especially meaningful to his family for his memory to be honored by helping provide comfort and compassionate care for others in need. In this way, his legacy of kindness, service, and love for others can continue to touch lives even after his passing.
