Obituary

Thomas C. Jack Woodruff, age 87, of Crescent Community died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Community Care of Rutherford County. He was a native of Rutherford County and son of the late John Thomas and Ona Elizabeth Carter Woodruff. He was also preceded in death by his wife; Jane Harris Woodruff, a son; Joey Woodruff, and two sisters; Ona Gilmore and Jonelle LaMont. Funeral Services will be at 10AM Tuesday at Fosterville Church of Christ. Brother Darryl Lewis and Jeff Adcock will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodfin Cemetery at Fosterville. Mr. Woodruff is survived by a son and daughter in law; Carter and Marvene Woodruff of Christiana, a daughter in law; Melissa Woodruff of Shelbyville, and three grandchildren; Marianna Grace Woodruff, Elizabeth Jane Woodruff, and Rachel Woodruff. Mr. Woodruff was a member of the Fosterville Church of Christ. He was a 1940 graduate of Christiana High School and a 1952 graduate of MTSU with a B.S. in Industrial Arts. Mr. Woodruff was a retired farmer and barn builder. He served in the 346th Infantry Reg. of the 87th Infantry Division in the European Theatre under General George C. Patton and was a former member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Mr. Woodruff was a working man and did hard and physical work all of his life. He enjoyed poetry, reading, storytelling and spending time with his friends. He loved the outdoors with a great appreciation for all nature. The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of Community Care of Rutherford County for their loving care. Active pallbearers will be David Mitchell, Chris Hillis, Craig Lynch, Billy Helton, Joe Brewington, and Tony Helton. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Mitchell, John DeJarnette, Jim Walker, and the men of the Fosterville Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Monday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
