Obituary

Dr. Thomas E. Hemmerly, Age 83 of Murfreesboro, TN, died Sunday February 14, 2016. A native of Nashville, TN, he was the son of the late Francis Floyd and Jessie Mai Cashdollar Hemmerly. Dr. Hemmerly was also preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Luckey Hemmerly who died in 2007.

Dr. Hemmerly is survived by his daughter, Kathy Roadarmel and her husband Tod of Mt. Juliet, TN; son, Thomas Everett Hemmerly and his wife Hannah of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Andy and Cara Roadarmel, Amanda and Amy Haynes, Preston and Layla Hemmerly; great-grandchildren; Grace, Nicholas and Zachary Haynes, Clover Roadarmel, Ava and Austin Lightburn; brothers, Harry Hemmerly of Nashville, TN, and Kenneth Hemmerly of Tallahassee, FL; sister in law, Dottie Moore and her husband Carl of Nashville, TN.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Wednesday at Belle Aire Baptist Church, 1307 N. Rutherford Blvd. Murfreesboro, TN 37130, with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM at the church. Dr. Dean Sisk will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with Andy Roadarmel, John Long, Carl Moore, Buddy Freeman, Dale Hemmerly Miller, Christopher, Patrick, and Wayne Hemmerly serving as pallbearers.

Dr. Hemmerly was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Nashville, but attended Belle Aire Baptist Church. He was a Professor of Biology, and taught at MTSU for 61 years. Dr. Hemmerly wrote and published four books, and was a world-renowned expert on mistletoe.
