Thomas Edwin Brannon made the journey from this earth into paradise at the age of 93 after a fairly brief illness. He is preceded in death by his faithful wife of 60 years, Virginia Hunt Cunningham Tassey Brannon; his parents, Richard Lee and Allie Esther Whitehead Brannon of Rockvale, TN; five brothers: Aubrey, Sam, Claude, and Richard and two sisters: Ruby Walden and Faye Campbell. He is survived by his daughter, Judy Fay Tassey Robinson of Rockvale, TN, and his son, Ronnie Gayle Tassey (Joyce) of Mobile, AL, and a brother, Jack Eugene Brannon (Sandra) of Rockvale, TN. He was blessed with a loving family of five grandchildren: Cindy Vick (Keith), Lisa Wisener (John), Corey Tassey (Melinda), Robbin Elrod (Keith), and Carrie Tassey Hosford; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He has many surviving nieces and nephews. He leaves behind countless friends, neighbors, and church members who loved and respected him. Tom was a member of Rockvale Church of Christ for about 60 years where he served as the treasurer for 45 years, and as a deacon for many years. He attended Windrow Church of Christ during the last few years. He served in the 2nd Armored Division as a radioman under Gen. Patton in World War II in the Atlantic theater of operation (1941-1945). With his death a valuable piece of history has been lost. A special engraved brick has been placed in the garden of the D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA by his family as a lasting commemoration of his service to our country. He was an electrician by trade, working at Seward Air Force Base, then at the VA in Murfreesboro, until he retired in 1982. Tom's family wishes to thank the many caregivers at the TN Veterans Home for their attention to his needs, and the many people who came to visit him in his final days. He treasured each of you. Pallbearers are grandson Corey Tassey, grandsons-in-law Keith Elrod, Keith Vick, John Wisener, great-grandsons Josh Vick, Jackson Hosford, and Luke Elrod, and great-grandson-in-laws Jimmy Bratcher and Wes Kennedy. Honorary pallbearers are nephews Cotton Walden, Robert Earl Walden, and good friends, James Albert Brown and Robert Earl Manning. Visitation will be 4:00 until 8:00pm Monday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:00am Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Robert Vick and Keith Vick will officiate.
