Obituary

Thomas Gentry Akers, age 63, passed from this life on Saturday, May 9, 2015. He was born in Knoxville, TN and was the son of the late Ray Fields Akers, Sr. and Mary Ruth Davis Akers. Visitation will be held from 4-7 on Wednesday evening and funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Jana Young Akers, son, Preston Gentry Akers, his daughter, Storey Lynn Akers, his siblings, Beth Gray of Knoxville (Gene), Ray Fields Akers, Jr." Butch" of Knoxville (Lynn), Cindy Debusk of New Tazewell (Charles), numerous nieces and nephews including one great niece, and other loving family and friends. He spent much of his childhood in Chattanooga before moving to Atlanta, where he graduated from Therrell HS. He received a Bachelor's degree from West Georgia University where he was the charter member and Commander of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Tommy can best be described as a God-loving husband, devoted father, wonderful brother, faithful friend and a humble follower of Jesus. He was a member of Believers' Chapel in Murfreesboro, TN. He was a strong, hardworking man who was a servant to many. His battle with cancer was a testimony of his faith in his Lord and an inspiration to all who loved him.
