SHARBER, Talmadge Jackson"Age 85 of Goodlettsville, TN, died at home on July 8, 2011. Born November 22, 1925 in Rockvale, TN. Preceded in death by parents, Virgil and Pearl Jackson Sharber; sister, Cloras Viola Sharber Thomas; brothers, James Ferrell Sharber and William Ivie Sharber. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Ann Dale Sharber; daughters, Leslie Anne Sharber Wurst (Doug), Kelly Dale Sharber, and Mary Kyle Sharber; grandchildren, Cory Jackson Wurst and Jackson Kyle Wilt; brother Robert Alvin Sharber; sisters Dorothy Ann Sharber Gannon and Mary Frances Sharber Ross. Mr. Sharber served in the Air Corps Cadet program in World War II after which he enrolled in and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). He was a high school teacher, coach, and retired after 33 years as vice president of American General (formerly National Life & Accident Insurance Company, NLT Corporation). He served as vice chairman of the United Way Fund campaigns and as board member and chairman of the Junior Achievement Capital Fund campaigns. He also was appointed to serve on former Governor Winfield Dunns Study on Cost Control. Following retirement from the insurance industry, Mr. Sharber began a second career as estate planning coordinator for MTSU. For many years, he was active in the governance of his church, Connell Memorial United Methodist Church, and served on the City of Goodlettsvilles Planning and Zoning Commission. Mr. Sharber served on the Board of the MTSU Foundation and was elected Board President in 1970. He also was honored with MTSUs Distinguished Alumnus Award for service to the university. He was a tireless worker, active citizen, avid golfer, and generous and loving husband and father. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Connell Memorial United Methodist Church, Goodlettsville, TN; United Way of Middle Tennessee; or the charity of your choice. Visitation at the home of the family on Monday, July 11, 3-6pm, 521 Donald Avenue, Goodlettsville, TN.
