Obituary

Sylvia Harris Carpenter, age 70, of Murfreesboro, TN, died _Tuesday, November 17th. She resided in Murfreesboro for 27 years. She was a cancer survivor for 17 years. Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her husband of 49 years, James Carpenter; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jame and Jeff Casey of Southern Pines, North Carolina, and Jodi and Chris Nevels of Suwanee, Georgia. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Miranda, Jimmy, and Mitchell Casey along with Avery, Carson, and Parker Nevels. She is also survived by one brother, Robert Harris, of Saraland, Alabama. Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lillie Harris of Prichard, Alabama; her sister, Dorothy Watkins; and her brothers, Preston Harris and Mason Harris. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Murfreesboro Womans Club, and a member of the Xi Alpha Omega chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was also active with several breast cancer support groups. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and travelling. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Marks United Methodist Church Building Fund in memory of Sylvia Carpenter. The address is 1267 North Rutherford Boulevard, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, 37130. Visitation will be held at St. Marks United Methodist Church on Thursday, November 19th at 2:00 pm, with a service to follow at 4:00 pm.
