Obituary

Susan Weakley Lytle Gay Bragg,  97, passed away on July 17, 2017, in Rancho Mirage, CA.  Born in her family's Shelbyville home on July 18, 1919, to Julian Foster Lytle and Elizabeth Frierson Lytle, she was the oldest of their three children.  Her brother, Julian Foster Lytle, Jr. (Bud) and her sister, May Frierson Lytle, predeceased her.

The family soon moved to Murfreesboro which she long considered her home town.  She attended the Campus School, Central High School and Middle Tennessee State Teacher's College.  During the war, she served as secretary to the General at Smyrna Air Base. She and John Breckinridge Gay married on April 5, 1945, and moved to Lexington, KY, where their four children were born:  Elizabeth Kirk, John Breckinridge (Breck), Annalee Ransom, and David Lytle.  They later lived on Signal Mtn., TN, before relocating to Downey, CA.

After John Gay died in 1975, Susan returned to Murfreesboro where she worked as secretary to Dr. Wolfe, Head of the English Department at MTSU.  On July 1, 1986, Susan and John T. Bragg, Sr. married.  They settled in Forest Oaks II where they lived until John died in 2004.  She was involved in many Murfreesboro community activities:  Linebaugh Library Board, Captain William Lytle Chapter 3009 of the DAR, Woman's Club of Murfreesboro, Society for the Restoration and Preservation of the Miss Eliza Ransom School and the First Presbyterian Church of Murfreesboro.  She also became close to the families of her Bragg relations: Wordna Bragg Black, Tommy & Jeanne Bragg and David & Nancy Bragg.

In 2010, Susan moved to California to live near her children.  She is survived by daughters Betty Teoman and Annalee Davis, son David Gay; grandchildren Ryan Gay, Ashley Gay, Tara Gay & Mark Murray; and nieces Elizabeth Lytle Maser of Richmond, VA; Margaret Lytle Morin of Nashville, and May Burton Lytle Seymour and Susan Lytle James of Murfreesboro.

Dr. John A. Hinkle, Jr. officiating; reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Bragg's memory to the John T.
