Susan Jane Emory, 66, died on June 1, 2016 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Her warmth and humor will be greatly missed. Preceded in death by her parents: Max and Sue Overton, she is survived by her husband of 40 years William Emory III and their son Andrew Emory of Asheville, North Carolina. Suz is also survived by her brothers, Max Overton of Sevierville, Tennessee and Tom Overton of Golden, Colorado, and brothers-in-law, Carden and Phillip Emory of Knoxville. She also leaves niece, Emma Overton and Nephew, Tom Overton of Sevierville, nieces, Andrea Butts of Chattanooga, and Heather Stuart of Greeneville, North Carolina, godson, Crawford Emory of Sewanee, Tennessee, and several cousins, including Richard and Irene Emory of Sewanee, Michael, Becky, and Christopher Blue of Phoenix Arizona, and many, many friends.
In the words of one: "To have known her, was to have loved her". She graduated from Fulton High School in Knoxville and attended the University of Tennessee where she met her future husband, Bill. They were married in 1976 and had a long and good life together. Susan was a former B.S.A. leader and merit badge teacher, enduring bears during her B.L.T. campout. She completed the four year Education for Ministry through the University of the South while a member of St Paul's Episcopal Church in Murfreesboro. Later in life she chose to become a Realtor after many years in the home. She worked in that field her last six years, earning her Brokers license and serving as an officer and as President of the Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors and as a board member of the Women's Council of Realtors, Middle Tennessee. She was an accomplished Quilter, winning an award at Tamarack award in W.V. for her thread quilt of Seneca Rocks and was instrumental in founding guilds in Murfreesboro.
Funeral service will be 11:00am Saturday, June 11, 2016 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The Reverend James K. Polk Van Zandt will officiate. Interment will be 1:00pm (EST) Sunday in Greenwood Cemetery, Knoxville, TN.
Pallbearers: Don Clayton, Don Dunlop, Stan Golden, Alex Hollis, Dennis Marron, Newton Molloy, Tim Seneker, and Bill Whitesell.
In lieu of flowers; the family suggests considering a donation to Gilda's Club of Nashville, or a charity of your choice.
