Obituary

Stanley Warren Clark , age 79 of Smyrna, TN, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016.

Stan was a native of Arlington, Massachusetts and the son of the late Charles Warren and Inez Day Clark. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Audrey Jean Clark (in 2009), and brother Robert Fletcher Clark.

Stan was a chemical engineering graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was an ROTC cadet and received his U.S. Army commission. He worked for Union Carbide, now Dow Chemical, for 39 years, primarily at the Tech Center in South Charleston, WV.  An opportunity with Carbide in Ponce, Puerto Rico from 1973 – 1975 enriched his family's experience and broadened his children's horizons, which he always encouraged.

Stan was a member of Charleston Baptist Temple, where he was a Sunday School member and coach of youth basketball. He enjoyed bowling, radio control airplanes and golf, and invested many hours in those pursuits. He was active in the Mountaineer RC club and enjoyed creating scale models and participating in competitions.

He and Audrey moved to the Teays Valley area in 1985, where they built the house they had long planned, and were active at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church. Stan and Audrey enjoyed many Elderhostel trips in retirement. In addition, they hosted an annual beach week in North Carolina for the entire growing family, a tradition which continued for over 20 years. Stan relocated to Smyrna, TN in 2012 where he was able to be regularly involved with his children and grandchildren.

Stan is survived by his children, Donna Scott and husband Ken of Pineville, NC, Cynthia Clark and husband Joseph Palescandolo of Rockville, MD, Nancy Patterson and husband Marty of Smyrna, TN, and Thomas Clark and wife Deborah of Downingtown, PA. He is also survived by grandchildren Alison Zieglmeier and husband Elliot, Kimberly Scott, Christopher and Alexander Palescandolo, Rhys, Kiara and Tobias Patterson, Emilea, Bryanne and Katie Clark, and great-grandson Jackson Zieglmeier.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm for a time of visitation and sharing of memories, at Angela's on the River, #2 6th Ave, St. Albans, WV.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org or 1-800-272-3900 in memory of Stanley W.
