Sonny Delon Reynolds, DVM, retired Lt. Colonel, age 73 of Murfreesboro, TN, died Sunday November 20, 2011. A native of Jackson County, TN, he was the son of the late Raymond Vestle and Myrtle Spicer Reynolds. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carole McGee Reynolds; son, John Christopher Lindsey Reynolds and his wife Rachel; daughter, Jennifer Shelton and her husband Will all of Murfreesboro, TN; brother, Buddy Levon Reynolds of Cookeville, TN; sisters, Patsy Yates of Granville, TN and Meta Sue Reynolds of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Jonathan, David, and Katelyn Reynolds, William and Thomas Shelton. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Monday at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, in Hopkinsville, KY, with full Military Honors. A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael OBannon officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM Tuesday at the church. Sonny Reynolds earned a B.S. Degree in Animal Science from Tennessee Tech University, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University, and a Post doctorate Master of Science in Veterinary Preventive Medicine from Texas A & M University. Dr. Reynolds retired from the US Army. During his service he was both a Paratrooper and Green Beret. Most especially, he was privileged to serve as a veterinarian in a Civil Affairs Group supporting friends, partners, and allies throughout Central America and South America. The Peruvian Government honored him for his work in earthquake relief support. He practiced Veterinary Medicine in Nashville from 1979-2002. He was recognized by the Tennessee Tech Ag Foundation and named to their Hall of Fame. In 2002, he was named to the Tennessee Tech ROTC Hall of Fame. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, a member of Rotary International, a Paul Harris Fellow, a member of The Military Officers of America, a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and a member of Toastmasters International. Dr. Reynolds also participated in numerous mission trips with the United Methodist Volunteers In Mission to Central America.
