Shirley Whitmore, age 71 of Murfreesboro, died Tuesday. She was a native of Murfreesboro and a daughter of the late Allen and Juanita Jernigan Mason, Sr. She was also preceded by a brother, Gary Mason. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Alan "Al" Whitmore; a daughter, Lisa Taylor of Madison; a brother, Allen Mason, Jr. and wife Cheryl, and a sister, Wanda Nulton, all of Murfreesboro; family of the heart, Myra Mason of Murfreesboro; Jian and Xaoyen Yong and their daughters, Patricia and Pamela of Phillipsburg, NJ; and a host of loving family and friends. Mrs. Whitmore was a longtime member of River Rock Baptist Church where she was active as a teacher for Girls in Action, a Missions Leader, a project Leader for the Operation Christmas Child project and had taught Sunday school at Southeast Baptist Church. She retired from the MTSU Admissions Office after 23 years of service. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Bro. Don Herron officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.
