SGM (Ret) William Heemsoth, age 62, of LaVergne, died at his home Monday, March 30, 2015. He was a native of New Haven, Indiana and was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Stanley Heemsoth. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Cherry Heemsoth; children, Samantha Mertens and her husband Jon of Columbus, GA, Will Heemsoth and his wife Marlena of Louisville, KY, and Josh Heemsoth and his wife Catherine of Charleston, SC; his mother, Barbara Faye Higginbotham of Clarksville, GA; a sister, Pam Swaidner of Peterstown, WV and a nephew, Lloyd Adkins of LaVergne, and ten grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends. Mr. Heemsoth was a retired United States Army Sergeant Major and Bronze Star recipient. His tours of duty included Vietnam and the first Gulf War. Following his military career, he worked for the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority retiring in October of 2014 after 16 years of service. A visitation with the family will be Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of a memorial service with military honors beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna.
