Samuel A. Peterson, age 95, of Smyrna, TN. passed away Thursday, September 08, 2011. A native of Meadville, PA he was the son of the late Davis and Harriet A. Randell Peterson. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Austin Peterson and his sister, Helen Carpenter. A memorial service will be held Sunday at the Smyrna First United Methodist Church at 4:00PM. Reverend Dr. Robert Webster and Bro. Jim Diamond will officiate. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 3:30PM. Visitation will begin at 3:00PM at the church. Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife of 69 years, Evonna Ploss Peterson; daughter, Mary Ann Eyster; grandchildren, Chris (Charles) King of Smyrna and Mike (Christina) Eyster of Murfreesboro; great-grandchildren, Bradley and Caitlyn King of Smyrna and Elizabeth Eyster of Murfreesboro; Sister, Imogene Carpenter of Castile, PA; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Wilda Peterson of New Waterford, OH; along with several nieces and nephews. Mr. Peterson was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army, and then reenlisted in the Navy at the start of World War II. Mr. Peterson was a retired electrician with Conrail Railroad. He was a proud 65 year Mason and member of Sam Davis Masonic Lodge #661 and was also involved in the Smyrna/LaVergne Food Bank. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sam Davis Masonic Lodge or the Smyrna/LaVergne Food Bank. Woodfin Chapel Smyrna is in charge of the arrangements. 459-3254.
