Sam Buchanan Lasseter age 99 of Murfreesboro died May 15, 2012 . Mr. Lasseter was a native of Davidson County but lived most of his life in Murfreesboro. He was the son of the late, Robert Caldwell Lasseter, Sr. and America Virginia Lasseter. Mr. Lasseter is survived by two daughters, Jeanine Ellen Lasseter and Layte Lasseter Fann and her husband Randall K. Fann all of Murfreesboro, two grandchildren, Hunter Buchanan Fann, and Samantha Lasseter Fann. Mr. Lasseter was preceded in death by his wife Roberta Sansing Lasseter who died in 2005, and three brothers, William Aclair Read, Robert Caldwell Lasseter,Jr. and John Amos Lasseter. Mr. Lasseter was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a President and Valedictorian of the Central High School Class of 1931. He attended MTSU majoring in mathematics and was quarterback of the football team. Mr. Lasseter joined the staff of Commerce Union Bank in 1935 where he served as President and Chairman of the Board until his retirement in 1978. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, and served on the State Planning Commission under Governor Frank Clement and Governor Buford Ellington. He served on Rutherford County Hospital Board, for 10 years, and was past Chairman of the Board. He was a former member of the board of directors of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce where he served as president in 1957. He was instrumental in forming the United Way of Rutherford County. Until recently Mr. Lasseter was very active and completely self-sufficient. Many have said Mr. Sam was a Murfreesboro icon that dedicated his life by helping the people and our community to become what it is today. The family would like to express their gratitude to Stones River Manor for the love and care that Mr. Lasseter received. He loved you all. Pallbearers will be, Randall K. Fann, Hunter B. Fann, H Trent Sansing, Melvin Fann, Jonathan Redmon, Richard Bearden, and David Augustin. Visitation will be Friday 4:00PM to 7:00PM, and Saturday 10:00AM until 11:00AM, at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
