Ruth O'Neal Harkness, age 71, of Smyrna passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014. She was a native of Grundy County and the daughter of the late William O'Neal. Funeral service will be 10:00am Thursday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Pastor Paul Chisgar and Paul Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow in Mapleview Cemetery. She is survived by her mother, Mary Ruth Gipson Smith, children, Brenda Howe, Kathy Layne, James Layne, Barbra Nicely, Chad Harkness and Mark Layne, siblings, Sonny Boy O'Neal, Kay Thompson, Brenda Hunter, Billy Joe Anderson and Ricky Anderson, grandchildren, Donnie Miller, Jamie Miller, Tiffany Vaughn, Bubba Vaughn, Cody Layne, Brianna Layne, Shunashi Padilla-Harkness, Billy Padilla-Harkness and Hailey Conwey, great grandchildren, Angel Braxton Thavongsy, Hunter Vaughn, James Braddock-Layne and Regan Elise Layne.
