Obituary

Ruby Climer Jacobs , age 92, of Bowling Green, KY, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020. Cherished wife, beloved mother, and devoted MaMa. "Don't you worry about MaMa," she told all of her loved ones any time they expressed concern for her wellbeing. She worked from the time she was 14 years old, and after her retirement continued giving of herself as she helped her family in any way that they needed. In her final days, even as she saw death approaching, she continued to tell her family, "Don't you worry about MaMa," more concerned about those she was leaving behind. She died peacefully in her sleep, her final gesture to console her family and encourage them to not worry about her.

She joined her husband of 57 years, G.C. Jacobs, who had gone on before her. Ruby Larine Climer was born January 25, 1927, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee to the late William Stanton Climer and Bessie Dycus Climer. She married G.C. Jacobs in 1946, after a brief courtship. He was her supervisor at the Murfreesboro Ribbon Mill. Ruby and G.C. built a small grocery store which became their livelihood. They raised two children, Connie Marlese and Grover Cleveland, III ("Cleve"). Their grocery store, Jacobs Grocery, was a place where people in the area congregated just because they felt welcome. Jacobs Grocery was a place where everybody knew your name. Ruby and G.C. kept a ledger with the amount owed them; they let anyone shop on credit that might have been short that month and always trusted them to pay their debts when they could.

In 1995, Ruby and G.C. moved to Bowling Green, KY, where they enjoyed their retirement among many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruby will always be remembered for her chess pies, carrot cake, and ham sandwiches. Any time you stopped by to visit, you never had to ring the doorbell. You would always find her waiting at the front door.

Ruby's legacy of hard work and selflessness lives on through her two children: daughter, Connie Bush (Jerry) and her son, Cleve Jacobs; seven grandchildren: Michelle Bush Scott (Steve), Chris Bush, Brandon Bush (Jennifer), Clevie Jacobs, Cory Jacobs (Natalie), Zac Bush (Laura), and Cameron Jacobs (Tabi); fifteen great grandchildren: Emily Scott, Jacob Bush, Ben Scott, Sara Kate Bush, Ethan Bush, Matthew Scott, Annabelle Bush, Christian Bush, Oliver Jacobs, Noah Jacobs, Griffin Jacobs, Canon Jacobs, Nathan Jacobs, Ellie Jacobs, and Cole Jacobs. She is also survived by one brother, Frank Climer of Brick Township, New Jersey, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, six sisters and three brothers. Ruby was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. "Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord." 2 Cor. 5:8
