Roger Anthony Cannon

Roger Cannon joined his heavenly Father in heaven on August 21, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him beyond measure and a legacy of kindness, grace, devotion, and faith that will live on through them.

Roger grew up in Alcoa, Tennessee, where he attended Alcoa High School. He continued his education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, before transferring to Lake-Sumter State College in Florida. He later completed a four-year apprenticeship program with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) as an electrician and completed a 37 year career at TVA. While his career was an important part of his life, Roger’s greatest accomplishment was the family he built and loved so faithfully.

Above all else, Roger was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Joni. His life was dedicated to her, and the love he had for her was powerful, steadfast, and deeply inspiring. He honored her not only through his words, but through every choice he made, every sacrifice he gave, and the constant care and devotion he showed throughout their life together. His love for Joni and his love for the Lord were among the most beautiful things about him—faithful, unwavering, and worthy of admiration. If every man could be even a fraction of the husband Roger was to Joni, the world would be a better place.

Roger was also the very best father and affectionately call “Pops” by his grandchildren. Being Pops was one of the greatest joys of his life. He gave his family something that can never be replaced—his time, his patience, his gentle spirit, and a love that was constant and unconditional. He had a way of making the people he loved feel safe, important, and deeply cared for. The love and memories he leaves behind will be carried in their hearts forever.

To know Roger was to know one of the sweetest souls and kindest spirits a person could encounter. He was a devoted family man whose love was evident in the way he lived each day. The love he poured into his family throughout his life is a gift only Heaven could reward.

Roger’s favorite place to be was the beach. It was his peaceful place—a place where he could slow down, enjoy the water, and take in the beauty around him. He especially loved to paddleboard, and the peace he found by the water will forever be a cherished part of how his family remembers him.

This world lost an angel and a deeply respected man, and his family lost something even greater: the steady, loving presence at the center of their lives. But God gained a loyal and faithful servant for eternity. Roger leaves behind a legacy built not simply from what he accomplished, but from how deeply he loved, how faithfully he served, and how he made those around him feel.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Joni Cannon; his daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Kyle Edwards; his grandchildren, Lola Edwards, Crew Edwards, and Ella Edwards; his siblings, Gary Cannon, Margaret Ogle, and Doris Poppelreiter, of East Tennessee; his brother-in-law, Bud Gilbert; and his father-in-law, Allen Butcher. He also leaves behind extended family in Atlanta, along with many cousins, loved ones, and dear friends throughout East and Middle Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sarah Cannon; his parents, L. Carl Cannon and Sally Cannon; his brother, Junior Cannon; his mother-in-law, Carolyn Butcher; and his brother-in-law, Steve Gilbert.

Although life will never be the same without him, Roger’s family will carry him with them always. They will honor his life by keeping his spirit alive through the love, faith, grace, patience, and devotion he showed them throughout his own. His example as a husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know him.
