Dr. Robert G. Ransom, age 88, of Murfreesboro died February 9, 2016 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Dr. Ransom was a native of Mayfield, KY and was a son of the late Vester and Pearl Robinson Ransom. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Keller Ransom, who died in 2003.

He is survived by daughters, Loretta Lawler and her husband Timothy of Valrico, FL and Sarah Steffer of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Jennifer Shriver of Orlando, FL, Joseph Hoffman of Nashville, and Mary Katherine Griffiths of Orlando, FL, Elizabeth Steffer and Robert Steffer both of Cincinnati, OH; great-grandchildren, Collin, Addison, Breaen, and Ava Shriver.

Dr. Ransom was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Mayfield, KY High School, Vanderbilt University, and he received his medical degree from the University of Louisville. He served in the United States Army where was engaged in medical research at Fort Knox, KY. He came to Murfreesboro in 1961 and joined the medical staff at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic. He was a practicing physician in Murfreesboro until his retirement in 1993.

Funeral mass will be at 11:00am Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Father Nick Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00pm until 7:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Family will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, or Rutherford County Historical Society in memory of Dr. Ransom.
