Robert Haynes Jordan, age 78, of Smyrna, died September 10, 2009 after a courageous battle with Alzheimers. Mr. Jordan was the son of the late John Woodruff and Nell Terry Jordan. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jo Ann Woodard Jordan, who died in 1998. Funeral services will be at 11:00 on Monday, September 14, 2009 at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Bro. Tim Lavender will officiate. Burial will be in Mapleview Cemetery. Mr. Jordan is survived by his wife, Mary Burton Jordan, son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sarah Jordan of Brentwood, daughter Lou Ann Jordan of Dallas, step son, Thomas Burton of Smyrna, step daughters Sandy Mahla of Suwanee, Ga., and Kim Beeson of Smyrna, grandchildren Lauren and Matthew Jordan, Thomas Burton III, John Burton, Raymond English, Kaylee and Burton Beeson, great grandchildren Lisa and Ayana Burton, brothers John W. Jordan, Jr. of Knoxville and Thomas Jordan of Chattanooga, and sister Jane Griffin of Nashville. Mr. Jordan was a member of Smyrna Church of Christ and was retired from BellSouth. He was a 1949 graduate of Smyrna High School. Mr. Jordan served in the 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing with the U.S. Force during the Korean War. An avid ham radio enthusiast, he later served with the Military Affiliates Radio System during Operation Desert Shield, relaying messages between troops and their families. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna, phone number 615-459-3254.
