Obituary

ROBERT IVIE GARRETT, JR., age 67 of Nashville, died April 1, 2010. He was a native of Nashville, and son of the late Robert Ivie and Elizabeth Dassel Garrett. A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Garrett is survived by his brother, Tim Garrett of Nashville, and two nephews, Kevin Garrett of Nashville and Kirk Garrett of Murfreesboro. Mr. Garrett received his undergraduate degree in social science from Middle Tennessee State University in 1964 and his graduate degree in history from George Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in 1966. He then taught economics and political science in Metro Nashville schools, and history and social science at Cumberland University in Lebanon, and Florida Community College in Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Garrett received awards for excellence in teaching; was an Eagle Scout; and was awarded the Key to the City of Jacksonville by the mayor of Jacksonville, Fl. He was an outdoor enthusiast and traveler who had visited 19 countries. Woodfin Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. 615-893-5151.
