RICHARD JOHN McGOWAN, of Murfreesboro died September 20, 2010. He was a native of Akron, Ohio, and son of the late Stephen and Emma Lewis McGowan. Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Mark Sappenfield officiating. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron, Ohio. Mr. McGowan is survived by his wife, JoAnn McGowan; children, Lynn (Mike) DeGroff, Steve (Debbie) McGowan, Diane (Wayne) Westmoreland, and Rich (Kim) McGowan all of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Danny DeGroff, Sara Barnes, Stephen McGowan, Andrew McGowan, Michael McGowan, Amanda Westmoreland, Matt Westmoreland, John Westmoreland, Jacob McGowan, Kathleen McGowan, Joshua McGowan, and Claira McGowan; great grandchildren Brighton and Natalie Barnes, and Shelby DeGroff. Mr. McGowan was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen McGowan, a brother, Stephen McGowan, and a sister, Agnes Lewis. Mr. McGowan was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and a retired salesman in the footwear industry. He attended St. Pauls Gradeschool in Akron and graduated from St. Marys High School in Akron where he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians and played one year of minor league baseball. He also attended Akron University. Memorials in memory of Mr. McGowan may be made to St. Rose School or St. Rose Preschool.
