Obituary

Richard James "Rick" Byrne, age 54, of Murfreesboro passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.

Funeral service will be 10:00am Saturday, June 30, 2018 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The Reverend Colin Ambrose will officiate, assisted by The Reverend Gene Wise and The Reverend Wesley Arning.

He is survived by his wife, Ca'Tricia Robinson; mother, Joan Durkin Byrne; mother-in-law, Joani Beckwith; sister-in-law, Jessica Beckwith (Colter Richardson); sister-in-law, Kristy Zgol (Greg); nephews, Grayson and Ryan; uncles and aunts, Brent and Shannon Flynt, Bob and Linda Durkin, Larry and Peggy Davis; cousins, Taylor and Morgan Flynt, Steve and Linda Durkin; step mother-in-law, Kay Robinson (Stephen Smith); his beloved pets, Lucas, Holly and Tommy; and best friends, Ally Davis, Sean Lloyd, Brian Crow, Megan Boekeloo, Rob Some, Susan Hamm, Carl Schneider, Charlie McClain and Teri Evetts.

Rick was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1985. He lived in Michigan for 22 years, working as a journalist, and was Editor In Chief of an award-winning newspaper in the Detroit suburbs. He moved to Tennessee in 2004 to begin work as a market analyst for a healthcare company, and worked there until 2010. When he left there he started his own company, Middle Tennessee Services, which performed commercial property inspections for banks and insurance companies. In his spare time, he liked to work on cars, and has worked on the pit crew of racing teams in the ARCA and NASCAR Truck series.

He was currently the Youth Director at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and also active in Pilgrimage, Men's Club, Ministry Formation Groups, Summer Sunday Breakfasts, Second Wednesday Suppers, VBS and the Over-70s Luncheons. Rick would welcome and help just about anybody. He was a leader of the Awkwards award winning Trivia team at Nobody's for seven years running. He was an avid supporter of MTSU basketball and all University of Michigan sports teams.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Youth Services, 116 N Academy St, Murfreesboro, TN 37130 in his memory.

Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7:30pm Friday, June 29, 2018 in the Parish Hall at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
