Obituary

Richard Franklin Dimmock, age 89 of Murfreesboro, TN. passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home. A native of York, PA he was the son of the late Charles Wilson and Edna Herr Warfel Dimmock. Mr. Dimmock is also preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda Hodges Dimmock and his brother, Russell Dimmock. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00AM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brother Mike Lee will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. Mr. Dimmock is survived by his wife, Lura Fann Dimmock; daughter and son-in-law, Janice Dimmock (Michael) Stewart of Murfreesboro; two step-daughters, Mary (Thomas) Drennan and Betty Alsup both of Murfreesboro; grandson, David (Leslie) Dillon of Murfreesboro; granddaughters, Christi Dillon of Murfreesboro and Kristie Stewart (Russell) Givens of Knoxville; grandson, Parker (Kim) Eakes; and granddaughter, Stephanie (Chris) Morgan and 12 great-grandchildren. He also will be greatly missed by his dog, Bedford. Mr. Dimmock was a member of Third Baptist Church and was a member of the church choir, he loved to sing. He was a proud World War II Veteran, having served in the European Theatre as a Tank Commander in the 10th Armored Division of the 3rd Army under General George S. Patton. Mr. Dimmock was retired from Western Union as a telegraph installer. Loving to work he would eventually retire two more times, from the International Paper and from the V.A. Medical Center. Mr. Dimmock was very active in the Great American Sing Along. After Mr. Dimmocks two neighbors lost their wives, he would have them over for breakfast every Saturday morning from then on out. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Tennessee State Veterans Home for the continuous love and dedicated care they gave to Mr. Dimmock. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Benevolent Fund at Stones River Manor. Visitation with the family will be from 4:00PM to 7:00PM Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. 893-5151.
