Richard “Andy” Anderson, Jr. age 93, of Smyrna, TN, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2026. Andy is preceded in death by his parents, Ada Marie Baker and Richard Anderson Sr.; sons, Richard III and Tony; siblings, Dora Lee Chumney, Bud, Hillary, William, Paul, and Norman Anderson.
He is survived by his wife Doris Ford Anderson; son, Rodney (Becky) Anderson; grandsons, Anthony (Carmen) Tapp and William Nathan Anderson; five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his church family at Life Point of Smyrna. Andy was a native of Rutherford County, born in Murfreesboro but living most of his life in Smyrna. He was an Army Veteran serving his country as Combat Medic during the Korean War and in the Reserves afterward. He married the love of his life, Doris Ford, in 1957 and they had 68 years together. They raised three sons, Richard III, Tony, and Rodney. His work career, like him, was wide and varied starting with Smyrna Service Center, Smyrna Hardware, was the first dispatcher for Smyrna P.D., Patrolman for LaVergne P.D., City Manager of LaVergne, Owner of Andy’s Washer and Appliance Repair Service, and City of Smyrna Maintenance, after which he retired. In his personal time he was a member of Sam Davis Free Masonry 661, since 1972, Sam Davis OES 290, Beagle Club, Smyrna CB Rescue, and Life Point Church since 1972. Some of his many hobbies throughout his life included fishing, taxidermy, tinkering, collecting, travel, and gardening. If his attributes were to be cataloged, many said, “honorable, sweet, funny, mischievous, of strong faith, helpful, willing to give the shirt off his back, and he was most proud of his beautiful wife.” So… whether you called him Richard Anderson Jr., Andy, Honey, Daddy, Dad, Brother-in-Law, Uncle, Granddad, or Friend consider yourself so very blessed that for ninety-three years he was a special part of your life.
