Rebecca Chervin
Slaughter
January 20, 1926 – November 23, 2021
Rebecca Chervin Slaughter went to be with our Savior November 23, 2021 at the age of 95. She was born in Santiago, Chile to Isaac and Berta (Dolman) Chervin. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother, and by her beloved husband of 48 years, William (Bill), Slaughter.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Hargett and husband, Gregg; granddaughter, Krista Warren and husband, Jeremy; and granddaughter, Rebecca "Paige" Pair and husband, Garret. She, also, leaves behind great grandchildren, Reagan Noel Warren, Davis Michael Warren, Eden Elizabeth Pair and, new addition. Anniston Rose (Annie) Pair. The family all resides in the middle Tennessee area.
Rebecca graduated from the Catholic University in Santiago, Chile with a degree in education. She was teaching at the age of 20 when she met and fell in love with Bill who was stationed in Santiago. After their marriage, they returned to the USA and she began a career as a military spouse moving from one AFB to another. She spoke Spanish, English and French fluently which always seemed to lead her into employment opportunities as an interpreter. Wherever they were stationed, she was very active in her local church. She, also, was a hospital volunteer and Girl Scout leader. Her favorite station was Madrid, Spain. While in Hawaii, she began a 10 year career in Human Resources and Bill ended up moving around following her career once he retired.
After she retired, in 1985, they moved to Murfreesboro where she was active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church and, later, First United Methodist Church, the Woman's Club, the Symphony Guild, and the Ambassador's Club. Her hobbies were reading, painting, golf, music, traveling, and dearest to her heart, being with her family.
A Celebration of Life Service for Rebecca will be held at First United Methodist Church on Thompson Lane, Saturday, December 11, 2021. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until the time of services beginning at 2:00pm. Please join the family after the service for refreshments in the Lillian Branson classroom.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Woodfin Funeral Chapels and an online guestbook is available for the Slaughter family at www.woodfinchapel.com and in lieu of flowers, please toast Rebecca with your beverage of choice.
