Rebecca Lynn Robertson, 58, of Murfreesboro Tennessee, died Friday March 20, 2009. She is survived by husband Andrew Nelson and their only child Robert Nelson, parents Joyce and Garland Robertson of Murfreesboro, Grandmother Bessie Robertson of Murfreesboro, two brothers Robin Robertson and Ronald Robertson of Murfreesboro, two sisters Mona Lee of Franklin and Rita Couch of Murfreesboro. She was born in Nashville. She was a graduate of Murfreesboro Central High School, received her BA and MA in English from MTSU and continued post-graduate studies at the University of Memphis. While pursuing her masters degree at MTSU Becky taught as a graduate assistant in English. Her love of writing was cultivated in her early career as a newspaper writer and society columnist for the Daily News Journal and in Memphis as a public relations and in-house publications editor for the Memphis Shelby County Public Library. She continued her career with language and literature when she returned to Murfreesboro where she taught in the Rutherford County Schools. Her last teaching position was at Smyrna High School where she taught until her retirement in 2006. Enthusiasms in her life included photography, dressage, writing, and a very successful foray into dog agility training during her retirement. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Alive Hospice, the ASPCA, or the Southern Poverty Law Center. Visitation will be held at Woodfin Memorial Chapel from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M.
