Obituary

RALPH HOOVER VANCE SR. age 89 of Murfreesboro, died Thursday March 24, 2011 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home. He was the son of the late Claude and Flora Hoover Vance. Mr. Vance is survived by his wife of 65 years Edna Foster Vance, Sons Tom (Nancy) Vance of McMinnville, Ralph (Melinda) Vance Jr., step son Charles (Judy) Parker both of Murfreesboro, his grandchildren Ashley (Michael) Jensen of McMinnville, Andrew T. Vance, Katie Lynn Vance, Benjamin T. Vance all of Murfreesboro, and a brother Robert Joe (Anna) Vance of Almaville. He was preceded in death by a brother Claude Vance Jr., and his sisters Jean Alsup, and Ruth Wood. Mr. Vance was a Murfreesboro Policeman for over 35 years, retiring as Police Chief on November 30, 1976. Following retirement, he served as court officer for Chancery Court and General Session Court for Rutherford County. He served in the United States Army and was a wounded veteran of World War II. Graveside services will be 1:00 Monday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with full Police Honors. Brother Ron Harper will officiate. Woodfin Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
