Obituary

Ralph Charles Marcus, age 89 of Smyrna, TN, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 He leaves behind four daughters, Diana Bernstein, Kathy Dawson and her husband John, Terrie Bryan and her husband Jim, and Beth Pruiett and her husband Shane; ten grandchildren, David and Paul Bernstein, Amy Dawson, Ryan and Rebecca Gregory, Marcus and Jessica Hoffstetter, Ashley and Zachary Pruiett and Kelly Flatt; eight great-grandchildren, beloved cousins, John and Jenny Dyer and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Sarah Dyer Marcus; his father and mother Jess and Jessie Marcus; and his sister Clelon Marcus. He served in three branches of the Armed Forces, the Navy, Marines and Army and fought in three wars, being a part of the second wave on the invasion of Iwo Jima during World War II, then later served in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the U.S. Army in 1968 as a SFC-E7 he moved his family to Memphis, TN then to Martin, TN before moving to Smyrna in 1990. He was a member of Stones River Baptist Church in Smyrna. Ryan Gregory, David Bernstein, Marcus Hoffstetter, Zachary Pruiett, Ronnie Perryman and Mike Downs will serve as Pallbearers. Visitation will be held at Stones River Baptist Church in Smyrna, Friday, June7, 2013 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at Stones River Baptist Church on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 11:00am. Brother Oscar White will officiate. Burial will follow in Mapleview Cemetery.
