Ralph Douglas Fox

With a life marked by enduring purpose, quiet joys, and deep devotion to his family, Ralph Douglas Fox passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, following a brief battle with cancer. He was 73 years old.

Born on August 22, 1953, Ralph grew up in Nashville, attending Sylvan Park Elementary School and graduating from Bellevue High School with the Class of 1971. He continued his education at Middle Tennessee State University, alternating semesters of work and school. From an early age, Ralph was surrounded by men, particularly his father, who understood the value of a strong work ethic. He carried that lesson with him into adulthood, working his way through college and graduating with the Class of 1979.

Ralph spent much of his working life with Kroger and PepsiCo. He began a new chapter in 2018 when he started Cumberland Convenience Services with his son, Daniel. The business became the most rewarding chapter of his career and a source of great pride.

Ralph was a faithful member of Lascassas Baptist Church. He enjoyed visiting Civil War battlefields and was never one to pass a plaque without stopping to read it. He loved to fly and spent many hours in his younger days working toward his pilot’s license. His father bestowed a great love for fishing, and he enjoyed spending time outdoors hiking, riding and caring for his horses, or playing a round of golf. When the original Pa and Granny were still with us, he could often be found on the farm, helping wherever he was needed and enjoying every minute of his time there. He was rarely without a book in his hand, usually a history book or a war biography, and he could just as often be found watching a Western on TV with a Coke and homemade Rice Krispie treats nearby. He celebrated 42 years of marriage this past July to the love of his life, Betty Kay.

These simple pleasures brought him a great deal of happiness, but nothing compared to the joy he found in his grandchildren. He loved each of them dearly, took great pride in watching them grow, and fought fiercely for the chance to see more of their lives. He wanted to stay for as long as he could, and he fought hard for more time with his family. We grieve the time we wanted and did not get, but we trust the God who holds our days in His hands. The Lord has called him home, and we take comfort in the promise of seeing him again.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Betty Kay King Fox; his children, Katie (Dale) Best, Andrea (Patrick) Houseman, Daniel (Jessica) Fox, and Dana (Chad) Huggins; his grandchildren, Ellie, Isaac, Joseph, Cameron, Sawyer, Vance, Luca, and Vera; his siblings, Paulette Fox, Carol (Larry) Felts, and Don Fox; and many beloved aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Blackman Fox and Alice Baker Fox.

Visitation will be held at Woodfin Funeral Chapel in Murfreesboro on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from four o’clock to six o’ clock in the afternoon; the memorial service to follow at six o’clock with Rev. Aaron Smith officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at ten o’clock in the morning.

Ralph will be remembered for the family he loved and cherished, the work he took pride in, the history he loved, and the many quiet pleasures that filled his days. Above all, he will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence was an integral part in the lives of those who loved him. His memory will remain a lasting part of the family he leaves behind.
