Obituary

Quentin "Red" Rayfield Kelso, age 91, of Murfreesboro, TN, died Monday, April 14, 2014. A native of Chicago, IL, he was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marguerite O'Brien Kelso; wife, Dorothy Barbara Skorup Kelso; sisters, June Bentley and Shirley Obiala; and brothers, Donald Kelso and Vernon Kelso. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at 1:00PM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Father Mark Sappenfield will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Kelso is survived by his daughter, Kristine Schultz and her husband Jack of Murfreesboro, TN; son, John Kelso; son, Kevin Kelso and his wife Joanne of Hilton Head, SC; daughter, Donna Heine and her husband Joe of Gallatin, TN; daughter, Susan Lindeman and her husband Wayne of Smyrna, TN; daughter, Denise Byrn and husband Richard of Tampa, FL; son, Mark Kelso and his wife Stephanie of Charlotte, NC; sister, Bette Lou Krizewicz and her husband Ed of Las Vegas, NV; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Kelso was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was a World War II veteran having served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. Mr. Kelso was awarded the Air Medal after he and his aircrew sunk a Japanese submarine. He was a retired manufacturing engineer with Ingersoll-Rand in Mayfield, KY. After retirement, he was an avid gardener and woodcrafter. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Honor Flight at Honor Flight, Inc. Attn: Diane Gresse 300 E. Auburn Ave. Springfield, OH 45505. The honor flight transports veterans to Washington D.C. to visit THEIR memorials.
