Obituary

Phillip Randel (Ronny) Allen passed from this earth on March 21, 2011 at the early age of 66 after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. Ronny was born on May 16, 1944 in Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee. He attended school in Charlotte, TN and Austin Peay University in Clarksville. He was employed at Trane in Clarksville, TN and later began his retail career by joining the management team at Kuhns Big K corporation. During this time he and his family resided in Pulaski, TN; Columbia, TN; Newport, TN; Sheffield, AL; Corinth, MS; Shelbyville, TN and Richmond, KY before settling in Murfreesboro, TN. Ronny and his family have lived in Murfreesboro, Tennessee since 1975 when Ronny became the manager of the Big K department store. He resigned from Big K to open Allens on the Square in 1978 and returned to Kuhns Big K Corporation as toy buyer in 1980. After Wal-Mart purchased Kuhns Big K in 1981 he became the store manager of the Murfreesboro location. He resigned from Wal-mart in 1986 to open the first McQuicks Oilube on Broad Street in Murfreesboro and later to open a location in Hendersonville, TN and a second location in Murfreesboro, TN. Ronny retired in 2004 from the oil lube business and from 2002 to 2008 employed by Gaylord Corporation at the Grand Ole Opry. Ronny has been in The Bridge at Monteagle, TN ,an Alzheimers care facility, for the past 23 months. His spirit is now resting with a clear and perfect mind. Ronny was a member of the Kingwood Heights Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, TN where he had been a past deacon, member of the mission committee and the benevolence committee. Ronny enjoyed sports, taking an occasional shot at the hoop when he passed by. He was an avid Vanderbilt fan and attended as many games as possible. He was past Commissioner of Kiwanis Dixie Youth Baseball League and enjoyed as many games of golf as he could get in his busy schedule. He was also known to drop a line in any hole of water he thought big enough to hold a fish. Ronny is survived by his wife Linda Kelley; one son, Randall Allen and wife Cynthia of Murfreesboro, TN; one daughter, Susan Jones and husband Allan of Murfreesboro, TN.; two grandchildren, Niki White of Destin, FL and Veronika Jones of Murfreesboro, TN. He is survived by his forever friends Robert and Rhonda Ellis of Murfreesboro. Ronny is also survived by: one sister, Sue (David) Gaylor of Nashville, TN and one brother, Ted Allen of Dickson; three nieces and one nephew and one great niece and one great nephew. Ronny was preceded in death by his parents, Norris Wall Allen and Dorothy Lucille Phillips Allen. Services for Phillip Randel (Ronny) Allen: Visitation in Murfreesboro will be Friday, March 25, 2011 from 4 pm til 8 pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, TN. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 1:00pm at the Water Street Church of Christ in Charlotte with visitation before the funeral from 11:00 am til 1:00 pm. Eulogies will be given by Randy Allen and Robert Ellis with service conducted by Robert Cullom. Interment will be at Cumberland Furnace Cemetery, Hwy 48, Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee. Pallbearers are Don Beard, Ernest Dave Fiser, Paul Givens, Allan Jones, Patrick Kelley, Billy McGee, Steve McGill and Harold Suggs. Honorary pallbearers will be the Kingwood Heights Church of Christ family. Contributions can be made to your local youth sports teams or the Alzheimers Association.
