Pauline Baxter
Cantrell
March 9, 1913 – March 17, 2017
Pauline Baxter Cantrell, long term resident of Rutherford County, age 104, passed away on March 17, 2017 and was a recognized centurion in Rutherford County.
Mrs. Cantrell was a native of Lawrence County, TN, and was the oldest member of First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. She is preceded by her husband, Charles Bryant Cantrell Sr. and six siblings and parents; William Newell Baxter and Emma Ezalee Ogle Baxter. She is survived by her children, Charlene Taylor (Ron) of Murfreesboro; Charles Bryant Cantrell Jr. (Rhonda) of Lebanon, TN. Grandchildren Emily Taylor Dye (Jackson, MS), Jessica Taylor (Dallas, TX), Bryant Taylor (Murfreesboro); grandchildren, Katie Tignor (Mount Juliet), Seth Cantrell, (Murfreesboro) and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cantrell was a member of The DAR (Colonel Hardy Murfree) and The Woman's Club over the years. She received her teaching certificate from Middle TN Normal School, now MTSU, and she and her sister, Mabel Baxter Pittard began their careers in a one room school house in Lawrence County TN, walking more than eight miles each day. She enjoyed working in Atlanta GA for Continental Mutual Life Insurance, and The Baptist Sunday School Board. She was a gifted flower grower and enjoyed her garden, sharing her 'friendship' cuttings, and opening her yard on the Secret GardenTour supporting community efforts.
The family wishes to acknowledgement those who faithfully visited her, the National Health Care staff of long term care who so wonderfully became an extended family, and Family Staffing Solutions for their seniors reading-communications activities.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 200 E Main St, Murfreesboro, TN 37130.
A family graveside service will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Evergreen Cemetery.
