Ronald Powell
October 9, 1937 – April 7, 2024
Paul Ronald Powell, age 86, of Gallatin, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024. Paul was born in Humbolt, Tennessee to the late, Paul E. Powell and Colleen Smith Powell. In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his siblings, Gail Phelan and Jerry Powell.
Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Ismir, Turkey. After his service time, he enrolled at UT Martin for undergraduate and then went to UT Memphis Pharmacy College where he earned his now Doctor of Pharmacy in 1965.
Ron married his best friend, Claudette Sireilles in 1959. while stationed in Turkey. He began his lifelong career as a pharmacist in Jackson, Tennessee. He and his then wife, moved to Cookeville, Tennessee for a short stent. He and Claudette decided that they were better as lifelong friends prior to Ron finally settling in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Ron went to work for Murfreesboro Drug Centers and he along with Richard Reeves, started out as Saveway Pharmacy in 1980 before creating Reeves-Powell Drug Store. Ron and Richard worked to serve the families of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County for over twenty years together. In 1994, Ron sold his interest to the business to fellow colleague and employee Rick Sain. He briefly worked for CVS Pharmacy before joining as a staff pharmacist at the Alvin C. York Veterans Administration Murfreesboro Campus, remaining until his retirement.
Ron was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, UT Volunteers fan and he loved the Nashville Predators. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf. Ron had a knack for collecting knives and coins and was known for his keen sense of quality. Those who knew Ron, would say that his unique personality and laughter was infectious. He would often regal customers, friends and family with a comical, whimsical or captivating monologue.
Ron is survived by his loving daughter, Theresa (Zach) Miller of Gallatin, Tennessee; grandson, Grayson (Cassandra) Powell of Okinawa, Japan; granddaughter, Kadyn Miller; great-grandchildren, Jameson and Jackman; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 12:00-2:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. A celebration of life will begin at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be in Ron's honor to the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Children's Reseach Hospital and Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
