Paul Mounivong, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 9, 2026, at Highpoint Health – Sumner with Ascension Saint Thomas in Gallatin, Tennessee.

Born on February 6, 1945, in Nong Khai, Thailand, Paul lived a remarkable life defined by courage, determination, resilience, and an enduring devotion to his family.

During the Vietnam War era, Paul served as a fighter pilot in the Royal Lao Air Force. His service reflected the courage and strength that would remain defining qualities throughout his life. His journey would eventually take him far from Southeast Asia to the United States, where he established a new life in Banning, California.

Paul was intelligent, resourceful, and fiercely independent. Over the years, he worked as a private investigator, agent, and detective. Drawing upon his language skills and connection to his community, he also served as a translator for Thai and Lao individuals and families, helping others communicate and navigate unfamiliar circumstances. He further used his knowledge and determination to assist members of his community with legal matters in a private capacity.

Though reserved by nature, those closest to Paul knew the depth of the love he carried for his family. He could be headstrong and unwavering in his convictions, but that same determination reflected the passion with which he approached life and cared for the people who mattered most to him. He was a man who had experienced extraordinary change throughout his lifetime yet remained strong in his identity, his beliefs, and his commitment to those he loved.

Away from work and responsibility, Paul found happiness in the simple things. He loved fishing—a pastime that offered him quiet moments of patience and peace—and he always enjoyed trying his luck with the Powerball, holding onto the possibility that the next ticket just might be the one.

Paul was a devoted follower of the Buddhist faith, which remained an important part of his life and heritage.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Malivanh Mounivong, with whom he built a family and a lifetime of memories. His legacy continues through their eight children and fourteen grandchildren, as well as his two older brothers and two older sisters.

Paul's life stretched across countries, cultures, professions, and generations. From his beginnings in Nong Khai, to his service as a fighter pilot, to starting anew in America and building a life centered around family, his story was one of perseverance and strength.

To his family, however, his greatest legacy cannot be measured by the places he lived or the titles he held. It lives in the family he created, the lessons he passed down, the strength he demonstrated, and the memories carried by his children and grandchildren.

His reserved nature may have meant that love was not always expressed loudly, but it was present—in his determination, his sacrifices, his passions, and the life he worked to provide for his family.

Paul Mounivong will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

May he be at peace, and may the love, strength, and memories he leaves behind continue through the generations that follow him.
